Before adjusting, server used about 250W and now is constantly on 120W.
There is also benefit with power consumption. The way i used is changing the thermal FanSpeed Offset value in IDrac.
Note that the BMC/DRAC is responsible for controlling the fans' RPM which also varies depending on ambient temperature. You have to first troubleshoot the the fans' RPM. Many people advise changing the fans or changing the BIOS, but I found that very risky. I do not know of any quieter fans to replace the ones P/N TC146 that are validated to function on this 1950 server. If you set Maximum Performance in BIOS (Power Management), there is no way to adjust fan speed because when server start, IDrac set Fan Speed Offset to Max. If you use server at office, the noise become very anoying. Depending on configuration the system may run the fans at higher RPMs regardless of any detected temperature. So i then took the fan from slot 1 and swapped it with slot 4 - thinking that now slot 4 would error out, and it did NOT! so i think either something fried out - just coincidence with the move, or IDK what is going on.The BMC/iDRAC in is programmed to set fan speed min/max and adjust values based on factors like ambient temperature and system configuration. I updated the BMC and the bios firmware with the same results. I exchanged the module for another one in good condition and I still have the same problem in 2A. I was very careful in moving it and after installing it in the new spot and firing it up, the FANS are just going crazy. Looking at OMSA, it reports a failure in module 2A. Was all hopeful and fired the server back up and it is the same error, and loud fans. PowerEdge 1950 - Fan Issues I currently have a PowerEdge 1950 - I had it running on a shelve for about 6-8 months and finally moved it to a 1u wallmount on the wall in my office. I have done some reading on the forums and what i have come to the conclusion on is that its the ESM chip on the motherboard that might be bad. If you are using Windows 7 or later, just right-click the ISO and choose Burn Disc Image.

I was very careful in moving it and after installing it in the new spot and firing it up, the FANS are just going crazy. I have try to install Win server 2012 on a Poweredge 1950 creating a bootable USB and a DVD but either way is not working, I have follow several web options like setup boot process for USB and to boot from CD but no matter what I do on the USB it just hang and with the DVD will skip it, it wont even try to read it. power pins on mobo dell t20 and additional pins for adding a fan.
